More inputs, still a hypothetical model. Taxes, Social Security, healthcare, and market paths are estimates. This is not a recommendation.

Applied to the combined pre-tax pool. IRAs do not actually get this exception.
A current-employer plan can wait. An IRA cannot. This model uses one pool.

Geometric planning return 3.4% real, 6.0% nominal, volatility 11.5%. These are model inputs, not expected or guaranteed returns. Hypothetical results do not represent any client account.

Updating

On these assumptions, the planning path is funded

If the illustrated retirement starts at 65 and 65, the spending entered would require $1,515,810 in today's dollars ($2,674,814 in future dollars on this path). The model arrives with $2,746,023, 1.81× that illustrated capital. On this path the balance lasts through age 95. These figures are not a promise of what you will have.

Path through age 95

Solid line is the geometric planning path. The band is the 10th to 90th percentile of the Monte Carlo. Median is dashed.

What changes the illustration

  • Earliest planning-path age: 60

Work years still add savings and shorten the draw. Spouse retirement shifts by the same number of years.

  • No extra annual savings in this illustration

Today's dollars, grown with the raise assumption, added to the taxable account while working. This is a model lever, not an instruction to save.

  • This path can illustrate spending up to about $147,150

Essential plus discretionary, today's dollars. Healthcare, housing, and taxes sit on top of that.

IRMAA shows up in the projection

About 6 years price Medicare above the standard Part B premium. IRMAA looks back two years, so a Roth conversion or a large traditional withdrawal follows you. The brackets in force for 2026 start at $109,000 single and $218,000 joint MAGI.

The survivor files single

After the first death the model switches from joint brackets to single ones, keeps the larger Social Security check, and continues a pension only at the survivor percentage (50% of yours, 50% of your spouse's). That is the widow's tax penalty, and it is easy to miss in a joint-only spreadsheet.

What this is not

Hypothetical educational model anchored to 2026 federal law, then indexed with the inflation assumption. It is not a forecast and not a personal recommendation. NIIT and Social Security tax thresholds are not indexed, so more of the benefit becomes taxable over time. WEP and GPO were repealed and are not applied. State tax is a flat planning rate, not a bracket table. Liska Investments LLC does not custody client assets.
